Once again fall is here, and though it signals the end of another summer it also means cooler days, sweaters, and of course spooky season. And while I eventually tire of pumpkin spice and am ready for it to fade away until next year, one source of happiness that never fails me is the members of our very own Bureau community. Each week it’s my distinct pleasure to send out a newsletter touching on the latest topics affecting digital agencies today. It’s a great resource you can get for free by signing up here. But I also collect the best of those newsletters in recaps like this every month. Here’s what we covered last month!

Live Bureau Events

We’re always evolving, both as individuals and as businesses. Over the past few years we were forced to up our virtual events game amid the pandemic, and since then in-person events have suffered from higher costs and lower attendance. We’ve always loved having in-person meetings to share experiences you can’t get any other way, and we’ve been busy reevaluating our in-person events moving forward. I decided it was time to see what our membership thinks of the prospect of live events.

After talking with dozens of Burea-ites, we have decided to move forward with our Leadership Live event this year! This one-of-a-kind event that allows us to come together, share our challenges and frustrations, and find solutions by supporting one another. It’s all about getting through these tough times. And to sweeten the idea, we’ve decided to make tickets pay-what-you-can! I hope you’ll consider joining us.

Changing Your Perspective

If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, it may be time to find a new way to look at things. We all sometimes get the blahs, and with a little effort you can break out of that pattern and achieve something new. You could always stand on your head, or maybe just rethink your habits and try a little something new.

Not sure where to start? Begin by looking at how you spend your time, and take some time to identify areas where you can make small changes to give you a fresh start. Trying a new way of looking at things can instill a new sense of confidence and enthusiasm. With that in mind, set a few small goals that will lead you to a larger one. Then see if you can alter your mindset to turn apprehension about change into a sense of excitement. Instead of focusing on failure, imagine the best-case scenario. It can work wonders!

Specialization for the Win!

Reputation means everything for digital shops, and one of the best ways to build that kind of credibility is to become total experts. And since none of us can be experts in everything, that means you should pick something and become the best at it. Specializing can help you build trust quickly with clients, yielding higher profit margins and streamlined operations since everyone knows exactly what to do.

One way to start your journey to expertise is to look at the market and see what demands you’re already in a position to meet. Try to find something where there’s not already too much competition. Then you can delve deeply into that specialty, educating yourself and networking with others in the space. It’s also a great idea to get out there and host webinars and other talks to boost your recognition. Finally, you can actually work on refining what you can offer and developing any complementary skills your team needs to gain that depth of experience. All of this can make you an invaluable resource to your clients.

That’s what we talked about in August, and I’m already hard at work on our September content. So even if you don’t see the sense in receiving our weekly newsletter, we’ll have another recap here next month!
