Josh Barrett


Josh is principal and founder of CreateLegal, a Portland, Oregon law firm designed for businesses doing creative work. With over 20 years of experience, Josh founded CreateLegal to help freelancers, growing studios, and busy agencies find practical solutions to business law problems. Client-focused and detail-oriented, Josh is always looking for opportunities to help clients up their legal game.

Josh hails from Bozeman, Montana where he earned a BS in accounting cum laude at Montana State University and became a CPA. From there, Josh attended Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon where he met his wife.

In the community, Josh is Treasurer and a Director for AIGA Portland the professional association of design. Josh also advises App Camp for Girls, a nonprofit inspiring girls to explore their creativity through code. Josh helped found and serves as a Director to Operation Pitch Invasion, a Portland 501(c)(3) that builds, restores, and maintains soccer fields and futsal courts in deserving communities.

Bureau Standard Form of Agreement: SOW Edition for DPMs

In this workshop, Josh and Gabe Levine will use the model SOW accompanying the Bureau Standard Form of Agreement to provide practical advice for DPM’s, including how to draft and use the SOW to better manage projects and navigate difficult client situations. Through real world examples (and your questions), Josh and Gabe will arm you with the info you need to make best use of the Bureau’s Standard Form of SOW.

In this session you’ll:

  • Learn the key elements of any SOW

  • Understand how the SOW can minimize scope creep and uncompensated work

  • Develop strategies for using the SOW to keep projects on track

  • Identify language to use in specific situations
