Richard Banfield


Since the web was an infant, Richard has been trying to understand how teams of all sizes can create valuable digital experiences. His curiosity and dumb luck have given him the opportunity to lead designers through the chaos, while simultaneously documenting their adventures. In 2017, he published Product Leadership: How Top Product Managers Launch Awesome Products and Build Successful Teams, which he coauthored with Nate Walkingshaw and Martin Eriksson. He also authored Design Leadership and Design Sprint: A Practical Guidebook for Building Great Digital Products, which he coauthored with C. Todd Lombardo and Trace Wax. Most recently, he partnered with InVision to write Enterprise Design Sprint and narrate their upcoming Squads! Movie.

When he is not writing books, speaking at conferences or teaching workshops, Richard is the CEO of Fresh Tilled Soil. Under his leadership, Fresh Tilled Soil has delivered user experience and product design solutions to 700+ clients across the world. Clients include FedEx, Keurig, Intel, Harvard University, GE, Walgreens, BBVA, Shopify, Titleist, Citrix and Genetech. His colorful life experience includes being an officer in the army, a dive master on the remote Islamic Republic of the Comoros and a father to three amazing sons.
