The Best of the Best Cities

For Operations Camp 005, we're making our first trip to Asheville. If you've never had the opportunity to spend time in Asheville, you're in for a wonderful treat. And if you have, you know what an inspirational city it is. Between the mountain views, the amazing food, the arts and  the beer, this town is on everyone best cities list.

We'll be camped out at the Renaissance Asheville which is nestled in the heart of downtown. We're commanding a large meeting room for Operations Camp where we'll spread out, get comfortable, and talk about real ways we can run better agencies.

Our Agenda

We structure every Operations Camp so that you have the perfect blend of structure and free time. This isn't an un-conference. That term stinks. You're not just hanging out without a plan, fending for yourself, hoping to make connections. We devote meaningful amounts of time to discuss issues that are important to you as someone in charge of operations, with structure. But we don't get started early in the morning, and we don't like to be stuck in a hotel meeting room for too long either, especially when you're amongst such amazing surroundings.

Getting to Asheville

Planning Your Travel

With frequent daily flights to major hubs (Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago), year-round service to New York (Newark) and seasonal service to New York (LaGuardia), as well as non-stop service to six Florida destinations and the Washington, D.C. area (Baltimore) – Asheville Regional Airport is rated one of the best connected regional airports in America.

Going home, plan your departure from Asheville for Thursday, December 8th.

Getting to The Renaissance

Once you've gathered your bags, you have a few options into the city from Asheville Regional Airport:

  • Taxi: Taxis are easily found outside the baggage claim area. Expect about a $40 fare to get to the Renaissance.
  • Uber: Uber recently started serving the Asheville Regional Airport, and you can easily get from the airport to the Renaissance using the service.

We hope to see you in Asheville!

What is Operations Camp?

Operations Managers. Directors of Operations. COO's. VPs of Operations. Whatever you call them, they're the folks who make agencies successful. They make lofty visions reality. They’re realists. They’re always looking for ways to improve efficiency, to make employees’ lives easier, happier. You’ll find them at their desks, screens aglow, long before anyone else arrives, or well after others head home. They’re the reason people get paid, the reason you know what to charge, the reason you know when to hire (or fire). They’re the ones in the jungle, hopefully with machetes.

They’re you.

Operations Camp is where we take everything a digital studio is, put it in a box, and flip it over. We reconstruct everything using the collective knowledge and know-how of some of the best studio operators around.

This isn’t a vacation—it’s three full days of frank discussion about the tools, practices, and principles that make studios thrive. It’s also about ways to fix the stuff that keeps you up at night. Together, we’ll share ideas that worked, some that didn’t, and the lessons we learned from both. And during the whole thing, you’ll make lasting friendships while witnessing the launch of a new community.

Topics You Care about, Conversations You Direct

Operations Camp is not about watching people razzle dazzle you with Keynote decks while you check Twitter. It’s a series of moderated discussions where everyone is a presenter. The value of the event lies in the perspectives you absorb from each and every attendee, who are from diverse backgrounds and industry niches, offering perspectives often outside of your immediate circle of influence.

Ahead of the event, we’ll send a survey asking you what topics are most important to you. The stuff that is crucial to your operation, the stuff that’s the most difficult to wrap your head around, and the stuff you think you figured out. Your peers will complete the same survey. The most popular topics define our agenda and shape our conversations.

One of the most powerful things about a Bureau event is how quickly you’ll realize you’re not alone. No matter how unique you think your experiences or challenges are in this glamorous life we live, there are others who have gone through the exact same thing. How each of us deal with them is what is truly eye-opening.

Operations Camp is not about telling you what to do. There are no right answers. But the perspectives you’ll hear will inspire you to make things better, or at the very least confirm you’re on the right path.

Where Strangers Become Trusted Collaborators

One of the best things about Operations Camp is that our attendees are from diverse backgrounds and industry niches, offering perspectives well outside of your immediate circle of influence.

During the event, you'll begin to forge lasting relationships that eventually serve as an ongoing support system. You'll retain access to this dialog long after the event. Operations Camp offers an ongoing forum where you can maintain contact and provide advice, trade stories, and share successes well after you part ways.
