This event already took place, and it was pretty special. If you'd like to know when we announce the next Design Leadership Camp, please let us know!

What is Design Leadership Camp?

TRANSFORMATIONAL RETREATS FOR DESIGN LEADERS

Design finally has a seat at the table, but like many of us, you probably didn’t study business management in school. Truth be told, you probably consider yourself a designer, developer, or strategist who is now inexplicably running a big design team.

How did that happen?

Until a couple of years ago, the only opportunity you had to commiserate about the dirty details of managing your team was yelling in someone's ear over the deafening din of a conference happy hour. Wouldn't it be nice just to get away for a few days to recharge your batteries and talk to your peers? Your real peers?

You're not alone. That's why we created Design Leadership Camp.

Pure Inspiration Awaits

Creative spaces inspire creative problem solving. That’s why we've set Design Leadership Camp in Gateway Canyons. We'll stay in one the top resorts in the world while we work through the design leadership challenges we're all facing. Forget stuffy conference rooms, we'll be connecting around a campfire, or in a space with amazing views, or while hiking the canyons with new friends.

Gateway Canyons is located in Unaweep Canyon, one of the most unique red rock canyons in the world. The word Unaweep is a Native American term meaning “canyon with two mouths.” It is thought that the ancestral Colorado and Gunnison rivers may have cut through the soft red sandstone of the Uncompahgre Plateau, exposing stone dated to Precambrian times.

This is said to be the only canyon in the world that is drained by two creeks; East Creek and West Creek, sending water off in opposite directions. Much like the nearby Colorado National Monument, the area has special recognition in Colorado geology. Ancient rivers eroded the rock away, exposing more than a hundred million years of the geologic record and fossils of dinosaurs and early amphibians.

Our Agenda

We devote meaningful amounts of time to discuss issues that are important to you as a design leader, with structure. But we don't get started early in the morning, and we don't like to be stuck in a meeting room for too long either, especially when you're amongst such amazing surroundings.

Who else is attending?

Amazingly Open & Honest

Discussions are open, honest, and frank, and everyone participates. Everyone! Design Leadership Camp is not about a single person standing in the front of a room, presenting while you scribble notes. Instead it's a series of moderated, candid conversations. There are no elephants in the room, because we confront them, together.

One of the things you'll quickly discover at Design Leadership Camp is that no matter how unique you feel your experiences are, there are several people who have gone through the very similar situations. Comparing notes about how each of you dealt with these situations is truly eye opening.

No one at Design Leadership Camp is there to tell you what to do or how to do it, but we guarantee you'll walk away with perspectives that will allow you to make more informed decisions.

THE TOPICS YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THE MOST

Our attendees determine the discussion topics at Design Leadership Camp. We start with a wide range of ideas and whittle them down to the most popular. We anticipate we'll be discussing the following topics:

  • Scaling teams
  • Communicating vision
  • The right team structure
  • Staying innovative
  • Getting better at managing people
  • Collaboration outside of your team
  • Many more...

WHERE STRANGERS BECOME friends

Perhaps the best thing about Design Leadership Camp is that our attendees are from diverse backgrounds and industry niches, offering perspectives well outside of your immediate circle of influence.

During the event, we’ll begin to forge lasting relationships that eventually serve as an ongoing support system. You'll retain access to this dialog long after the event. Design Leadership Camp offers an ongoing forum where you can regularly maintain contact and provide advice, trade stories, and share successes well after you part ways.
